How amazing is this... All three of our NSSCC 2017 Scholarship winners have received apprenticeships at Sky City Auckland.
This year, NSSCC awarded two x $2,000 scholarships, to Brenna Lee (Napier Girls High School) and Charlotte Taylor (Wanganui High School). The judges, during the event, not only had to judge to the marketing criteria, but also had to keep an eye out for future stars.
City & Guilds Regional Manager, Glenn Fulcher, awarded a further $1,000 to Connor Yardley (New Plymouth Boys High School) for his dedication to the competition and his newly chosen career.
All three recipients applied to the prestigious Sky City Apprenticeship, which is based on the Internationally Recognised City & Guilds Culinary Arts Qualification where 10 to 15 apprentices each year rotate through Sky City Auckland's outlets from fine dining, conferences to the staff canteen. The NSSCC recipients also went to open days at WelTec, EIT, and AUT to check out the facilities and programmes on offer.
Sky City receive over 80 applicants each year and it is true testament to our NSSCC event, where the three scholarship winners from across the country, are offered apprenticeship positions. The three year program will test their abilities, introduce them to so many different styles of cuisine and teach them to be brilliant young chefs.
I am sure we will see more of these guys in the future. They join past NSSCC competitors, Sam Heaven (St Johns College) in his first year and Abigail Rapana (Onehunga High School) in her second year.
